The Islāmic Ruling on Celebrating The Prophet’s Birthday (Mawlid) - Permanent Committee of Scholars

Fatwá from The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Iftā’

“It is not permissible to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet - ‎ﷺ - nor the birthday of other than him, because the Messenger - ‎ﷺ - did not do that, and did not legislate it for his Ummah, likewise his Companions - may Allāh be pleased with them -, they did not carry it out, likewise the Virtuous Predecessors of the Ummah (the Salaf) after them from the most virtuous generations did not carry it out, and all of goodness lies in following them.”¹
