Whoever Truly Loves A People Follows Their Steps — al-Ḥassan al-Baṣry

It was narrated from al-Ḥassan al-Baṣry – may Allāh have mercy on him – that he said:

O son of Ādam, do not be fooled by the statement of those who say, “a person will be with those he loves”.

Indeed whoever (truly) loves a people follows their steps. You won’t reach the righteous until you; follow their steps, take their guidance, and follow their way, until morning and evening find you while you’re upon their methodology (i.e consistently) — diligently striving to be from them, thus you tread their path, and take their way — even if you’re deficient in action, because the main matter is that you are upon al-Istiqāmah (steadfastness).

Have you not seen the Jews, Christians and People of Destructive Desires (apparently) loving their Prophets, whilst they're not from them, because they opposed them in their statements and actions, and they treaded a path other than their path, thus their final destination became the Fire.

We seek Allāh's refuge from that!
