The Expansiveness of Knowledge

Imām ʿAbdullāh bn al-Mubārak - رحمه الله - said:

“I used to sit before Sufyān al-Thawrī and he would narrate ḥadīths, afterwards I would say, ‘Nothing remains from his knowledge except that I have heard it.’ Then I would sit before him on another occasion and he would narrate ḥadīths, afterwards I would say, ‘I have not heard anything from his knowledge.’’”¹
