From The Greatest Causes of Hindrance From Seeking Knowledge — Shaykh ‘Abbās al-Jawnah
Shaykh ʿAbbās al-Jawnah - may Allāh preserve him - (From The Mashāyikh of Yemen) Mentioned:
“Among the greatest affairs that hinder the individual from his pursuit of knowledge are these Fitan (tribulations) that occur every now and then.
So it is incumbent upon the beginner student of knowledge to not busy himself with ‘he-said she-said’ in affairs that occur between the brothers or the scholars, do not enter into anything you are not good at and are not skilled at, rather it doesn’t concern you in the first place, it only concerns the Mashāyikh and the ʿUlamā' (the scholars).
And from evil conduct is that when an issue occurs between two scholars or teachers — everyone enters, so they write and make recordings and throw insults at one another.
And in reality this, by Allāh, is from the greatest reasons of being hindered from seeking knowledge.”
