Shaykh ‘Ubayd al-Jābirī Explains The Levels of at-Taqwá (Piety)
﷽
Al-‘Allāmah ‘Ubayd bin ‘Abdillāh bin Salaymān al-Jābirī - may Allāh have mercy on him - Said:
At-Taqwá (Piety) is acting in obedience to Allāh upon a light (which is knowledge) from Allāh having hope in the mercy of Allāh and leaving off disobedience to Allāh upon a light from Allāh fearing the punishment of Allāh¹, and it has three levels:
1 - Carrying out the commandments (meaning, doing what Allāh ordered in His Book and on the tongue of His Messenger - ﷺ -.)
2 - Leaving off the prohibitions
3 - Being cautious of (or avoiding) the doubtful matters.
