The Ruling on Celebrating The Islāmic New Year — al-‘Allāmah Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān
Question:
His excellency, Shaykh Ṣāliḥ (al-Fawzān), does the end of the year have any virtue in the Sharī’ah (Islāmic Legislation)? Is there any greeting for the end of the year or the onset of new year? What is your advice? May Allāh bless you.
Answer:
No, it does not have any virtue over the rest of the days; and it doesn’t have any (congratulatory) greeting, there isn’t anything specific to it that (separates it) from the rest of the days. And every day is the end of the year in relation to what has passed it, for the days continuously pass and some do not possess special merit over others, because Allāh has made them as lessons and benefit for the slaves and a reminder for the slaves.¹
