Fuḍayl bin ʿIyāḍHonesty

Abū Rawḥ Ḥātim bn Yūsuf - رحمه الله - said:

I went to the door of al-Fuḍayl bn ʿIyāḍ and greeted him. Then I said, ‘O Abū ʿAlī, there are five ḥadīths with me, if you will permit me to recite them to you.’ [After his permission,] I recited, and behold, they were six [ḥadīths]! Thereupon he said to me, ‘Leave, O my son. Learn honesty [first], then record ḥadīth.’¹
